The history of Day One

The Day One Radio Company was formed in faith in 1999, as at the time, it was not possible for a radio station that was perceived to be religious to apply for a Local DAB Radio Licence.

At the end of 2003 the broadcasting law changed and the following year one of our team was prompted by the LORD to apply for a licence that was granted.

In 2005 the Heart of the Nation Broadcasting Trust was formed. It is through this trust that the financial resources for Day One Radio are raised. The trust subsequently applied to the Charity Commission for charitable status.

The Trust Directors/Subscribers of the HEART OF THE NATION BROADCASTING TRUST are:
Michael J Beardsmore who lives in Dudley is an accountant with wide experience of Christian organisations. He is involved in the business life of the region through being Chairman of Black Country Business Link. Michael is also Company Secretary of Day One Radio Limited.
Peter Darg who has a wide range of broadcasting experience in radio and television including being the CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network) Director for Western Europe. He lives in Hereford.

J Peter Wilson who has experience in broadcasting including being Station Director of 97.2 Stray FM (North Yorkshire) and as the Broadcasting Consultant to the Evangelical Alliance. Peter is also a director of Day One Radio Limited. He lives in Wolverhampton.
Madeleine Wilson who is a writer, teacher and the founder of Elvis Gospel Ministries. She is a director of Day One Radio Limited and is married to Peter Wilson.

In addition we have appointed a chaplain to the radio station: Dr Tony Stone who has a wide experience of Christian ministry as a local minister, an evangelist and he has been chaplain to the London Palladium. He lives in Stourbridge.

In August 2006 Day One Radio began test DAB digital radio broadcasts on the Wolverhampton community access channel making it the first Christian radio station on DAB in the UK.
The station broadcast a mix of contemporary Christian and gospel music plus speech with a Christian ethos.

It was operated by a group of volunteer broadcasters, who had worked in the BBC, UK commercial radio and overseas Christian radio. In addition there is a core group of individual Christians who are accountants, broadcasting engineers, radio producers, solicitors, marketing people, IT specialists and website designers who have all helped in this project.

During prayer meetings with our trustees, our management team and with our partners it became clear that Day One Radio should change from being a broadcaster to just the Black Country and Shropshire and in the future work to produce positive and encouraging programmes with a Christian ethos for other broadcasters.

At the end of August 2007 Day One Radio ceased to broadcast. Day One Radio now has the opportunity to provide programmes for other radio stations in this country and around the world. Day One Radio and Heart of the Nation Productions is involved with the wider radio production industry, as members of the Radio Independents Group and also some of our team are Radio Academy members.

How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! Ps 133:1
